McCoy cannot read the articles prior to publication because he is an employee of the college, which is a state organization. His prior review could be seen as an attempt by the university to censor the content and that is clearly a violation of the First Amendment. Plus, if the university/McCoy starts prior review, then they become liable for the content. Should a libelous story be printed, it would leave the university open to a lawsuit.

McCoy’s responsibility ends with teaching students good journalism with the hope that that is what they will practice.

Neither McCoy nor the university should be in a position of prior review. That is simply illegal.

Where in the Constitution of the United States does it say that a university administration can control content of a college newspaper just because they disagree with a few editorials. I smell a First Amendment lawsuit.

This is great! ESU should be held accountable these things.

The 600K for the Union was a bribe solicited by the Administration - The Union rennovation was sold to the students using misinformation and breaking state voting laws - ESU deserves all the bad publicity it gets because breaking the law is common practice behind the closed doors of the campus.

Bottom line...if nothing wrong was done, the President would not be trying to intimidate students and non-tenured faculty.

This is already a victory for the free press.

Power to ya, Bulletin!
I've long thought that ESU is too shrouded in an atmosphere of high school or middle school. We need students to muck it up, question authority, and cause a little ruckus. Remember when there was that huge scandal about chalking on the sidewalks? This is college! Students should be questioning things and speaking up. The administration needs to realize that the students are adults, not children, and the Bulletin is how they can do that publicly. Don't back down. This is a fabulous step. Next, organized protest!
