International student struck by vehicle, in serious condition

Yesterday evening at approximately 7:50 p.m., the Emporia Police Department received a 911 dispatch call reporting a person who had been struck by a while crossing the crosswalk in the “1500 block of Merchant Street,” in front of Butcher Education Center, according to a press release from the Emporia Police Department. This person was Yali Huang, a 23-year-old female Emporia State international student.

Patricia Sutton, a 72-year-old woman from Americus, was the driver of the northbound 2002 gray Jeep Liberty that hit Huang.

After an ambulance transported Huang to Newman’s Regional Hospital, Huang was then was taken by “Life Team to Wesley Medical Hospital in Wichita,” the press release also stated.

As of this morning, Huang is still at Wesley in serious condition.
