Dennis Etzell will tell his story about taking risks to oppose violence against women at 7 p.m. tonight in the Preston Family Room in the Memorial Union. Etzell is an English lecturer at Washburn University.
Etzell’s talk will focus on his experience protesting an ad portraying violence against a woman and the backlash from both those who created the ad and other women that followed.
“I certainly don’t have all the answers on how to prevent violence and sexual assault,” Etzell said in a press release from Ethnic and Gender Studies. “However, my discussion and questioning opens up several opportunities to further discuss and speak out against our overall culture’s seeming ‘acceptance,’ silence and apathy about these issues.”
