Emporia State prides itself on assisting students in pursuing their passion and parlaying that passion into a sustainable living, yet the only payback sometimes falls short. That weakness, however, may be changing to a strong positive in our relative future.
Gov. Sam Brownback is currently looking into a program that grants anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000 dollars to a university that encourages and assists in their students’ creating companies. While the details are somewhat lacking at this time, I believe this is a program with only positives and one that the higher-ups at ESU should begin looking into and assisting with its passing when the time comes.
Your ideal creation, your perfect dream company can be the impetus to push this program into existence and increase the prestige that this university is already building.
The relative ease in starting companies comes in many forms, from the creation of a page and a video on Kickstarter, to simply purchasing a web domain and painting the home screen a pleasing set of colors. The fact that our school has a powerful business program, as well as an atmosphere that fosters the creation of socially and politically active groups, can only lead to this program almost being taken advantage of.
With the passing of this program, ESU will have the ability to make thousands, and all that has to happen is to foster a level of encouragement toward new businesses and other programs. Those thousands can then assist in the creation of more programs and other necessities that this university needs and craves, and, perhaps, end the constant barrage of phone calls for donations when you finally graduate.
I urge you all to show off your creativity and entrepreneurial spirit and force ESU to understand your desire to grow by displaying your desire. The processes will hopefully turn into a tangible drive to allow this program to exist and allow money to flow into the pockets of everyone, furthering the innovative companies to come out of ESU.
