Blaufuss, Schulte win ASG elections

Senior crime and delinquency major Angela Blaufuss hugs senior microbial and cellular biology major Sarah Schulte after seeing the results of the ASG election yesterday near the CSI office. Blaufuss and Schulte were elected president and vice president of the student body for the 2008-2009 school year.

Angela Blaufuss and Sarah Schulte were announced as the next President and Vice President of Associated Student Government on Wednesday. Students cast votes in person and via Blackboard this week to determine the winners.

“I would say we’re both thrilled, because now we have the opportunity to give something back to the students,” Blaufuss said.

Campaigning and debates from both pairs of candidates built up to this week. Students voted from 12:01 a.m. Monday morning to 4 p.m. Wednesday, and results soon followed. A small crowd awaited the posted results once votes had been tallied at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Blaufuss, senior crime and delinquency studies major, and Schulte, senior microbial and cellular biology major, won the presidency and vice presidency with 288 votes. Taylor Relph, senior communication and public relations major, and Lisa Stephenson, senior biology major, received 188 votes.

“To see all of our work finally come to something, to realize that the students wanted to do what we wanted to do, is probably the greatest thing,” Schulte said.

Both Blaufuss and Schulte were very excited by the news, and students and supporters present for the results also congratulated the winners.

Many students cast votes in the Memorial Union. Jaclyn Lane, sophomore business administration major, was one of the workers at the voting table in the Union. “A lot of people who I’ve talked to or asked have already voted,” Lane said. “I’m pretty excited about that.”

Students stopped by to cast their votes on computers, taking less than two minutes each to complete the ballot. Each voter was given a free soda as thanks for participating in the election.

Though elections have previously been held both online and in the Memorial Union, this was the first year ASG widely and actively promoted the election online. After a few difficulties, ASG sent specific instructions to each student about how to vote online.

Michelle McHenry, junior elementary education major and election commissioner, reflected on the challenges. “We started out with some minor technical difficulties, but we got right back on track,”

By sending each student the invitation and instructions to vote, ASG hoped to increase upon last year’s voter turnout, which was roughly seven percent of students. The increased awareness that students could vote online seemed a likely way to get more voters.

Current ASG vice president Elissa Hadley, junior English education major, felt that last year’s voter turnout could have benefited from such publicity. “This is the first time every student was sent something,” Hadley said. Most students didn’t know, so most students didn’t vote.”

Despite the increased publicity and access, however, only 483 voters, or roughly eight percent, of students cast votes in the election. McHenry said that she hoped to see that number increase in the future.

The election also determined senators from each department.

Microbial and Cellular Biology? What an easy major (no sarcasm intended). Sarah, talk to your cousin Brian when you hit the Molecular level. Congrats on your election.
Is anyone else concerned about the blatant misuse of campaign photos?

Our new president used a photo that looked NOTHING like her. When I went to the debate, It took me literally 10 minutes to figure out who she was. So I truly laughed out loud when I saw this photo because our new president's identity is again undisclosed.

For the record, I would never vote on looks. I voted against her because she couldn't form five sentences in a row.

It's a good thing her VP carried her!
I'm glad I finally witnessed an election where the student body voted the right way.

Blaufuss and Schulte will do an amazing job. Maybe this time something will get done that the students actually care about.
Those two retards actually won? The mere fact that these fatties could chug beer and spend the rest of the night squirting "rea" in the stall speaks volumes about their ability to lead ASG. Perhaps these two cornholes could figure out how to stand up against the administration? I doubt either could get enough nads to pull a brave stunt like that. Here is a tip you two: tell the admin that tuition is going to stop climbing or you two are going to propose a vote of "no confidence" on behalf of ASG. Grow some backbone ladies.
These two couldn't lead a chicken to a bowl of cornmeal. In fact, it's amazing they can even find enough ambition to wake up and wipe in the AM. Passed out wasted is how they will probably spend their year in office.

Hey, do you think it's possible for you two hags to get something done about the homless ESU alum crisis that we are experiencing? Homeless ESU alums are at a record high! Please pull your heads out from the toilet, wipe the puke off your faces, and deal with this!!!
Awful, just plain awful these two are.
These two are probably in the asg office, piss drunk, trying to puke a dog off of a gut wagon. I wish stuff like this didn't happen on the students dime. SICK!
Wow! Two puppets for Dr. Worthless to push around. Who would have guessed that it would be so easy for the new prez to get a couple of pushovers so soon in his job. Ladies you make it too damn easy for him to screw the students. Why even pretend that you two are going to stand up to his bullshit? Just bend over now with the rest of the student body.
You do realize that your IP address is logged each time you leave a comment, right? The comments above lose a bit of their impact when you know they're all coming from one person.
FYI everything was written to stir the pot and have some fun. Of course these two are not wastoids. They are smart, ambitious, and probably doing a good job. These forums attract more ridiculous comments than factual ones because it's fun to waste time fanning the flames and stirring up shit. If I offended anyone, I apologize. If I made fun of two politicos and garnered some giggles, then that works too.
Some of these comments are quite humorous. I just hope the poor girls don’t read this and drink too much out of sorrow. Then again, they’re probably already too drunk to read this anyway. Ha!
What normal college student doesn't drink and have fun from time to time. Everyone says they want to elect Ned Flanders but really they like President Homer.
Not only are the comments tracked, they are turned over to the administration.
