ESU Ambassadors will play host to Senior Week events starting Monday
Beginning Monday, April 7 the ESU Ambassadors will host senior week, a week created for those students who have made a serious dedication to their collegiate careers.
“Senior week is a week long extravaganza to appreciate the graduating seniors of 2008,” said Jessica Velazquez, senior communication major and co-coordinator of Senior Week. “It is an event put on and planned by ESU Ambassador’s Senior Week committee.”
In past years, senior events consisted solely of senior day, composed primarily of the Outstanding Senior Banquet. The Ambassadors felt as though the graduating seniors deserved more than a banquet, which is why there will be an entire week dedicated to this year’s seniors.
The Senior Week Planning Committees have spent many hours putting together a number of events for the week. The activities will begin Monday with the Outstanding Senior Banquet at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Union Ballroom. This particular event is RSVP only (students can RSVP by calling 341-5440). Many awards will be given throughout the banquet, including the Outstanding and Distinguished Senior awards.
“The Outstanding and Distinguished Senior awards are named in honor of Dwight and Ida Curry Newburg, who provided endowed funds for the award,” said Nikki Metz, assistant director of alumni relations.
Tuesday, Emporia State Federal Credit Union will be hosting a luncheon for all ESU seniors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Webb Lecture Hall in Memorial Union. Seniors will have the opportunity to play casino games. There will also be the chance for seniors to win a number of prizes including a Nintendo Wii, cash prizes and alumni novelties.
On Wednesday, the ESU Ambassadors will host a Senior Appreciation Table in the Memorial Union. The Ambassadors will have gifts for all seniors who stop by the table.
Senior Bu-Bye Bash will take place Thursday at Wheat State Grill on Commercial St. The first 10 seniors in the door will receive a free meal and all other seniors will receive 10 percent off their meals. In addition to food, there will also be music and prize giveaways.
“At Wheat State there will be live music and even more giveaways,” said Becky Lundblom, senior communication major and co-coordinator of senior week. “Free pool and darts are offered as well. Seniors as well faculty and staff are invited.”
All seniors are encouraged to participate in senior week, as it was created to honor the accomplishments made by the class before they graduate in May or December.
“This week is to let the seniors kick back and have a little fun, and in the meantime, maybe they could win some awesome prizes,” Lundblom said. “It’s to honor them and their accomplishments. After their years of hard work, they definitely deserve it.”
