The Morse Residential Life Committee hosted a Spring Event for all residents of the Morse complex on the lawn offering students a chance to socialize and compete in events.

“We wanted to host an event that was in the basic field day style, said Tiffney Todd, assistant complex coordinator. “To do this we decided to hold a series of outdoor games such as relay races, volleyball games and others.”

Throughout the event there were a number of prizes that participants could win. Student participants automatically received tickets for their participation in the night’s activities.

“Everyone receives tickets for participating,” said Kelli Hearn, junior psychology major and resident assistant in Morse Hall. “Those who receive tickets write their name on the back of the ticket and enter their ticket into the raffle.”

In addition to receiving tickets for participation, students also earned tickets through their wins in the field games.

Select prizes were randomly raffled all evening and those whose names were drawn received a number of prizes. Prizes included a DVD player, a five disc stereo system, jump drives and a vast selection of DVDs. The prizes were what encouraged a number of students to participate in the field day activities.

“I wanted to come tonight because of all the prizes,” said Misty Long, sophomore elementary education major. “There are a lot of prizes and I really wanted to win some. The night also sounded like it would be a lot of fun.”

The biggest part of the evening was the relay competition. The first relay held was for teams of four which included spinning in circles, running with an egg on a spoon, sack and wheelbarrow racing. The team that completed this entire cycle twice was named the winner of the relay.

“It felt really good to win the team relay,” Long said. “I had so much fun during the race and with my teammates and we got four tickets out of the deal.”

Upon completion of the team relay races, a series of individual races was held. After the individual races another team relay was held in which members of the same building competed against one another. The winners of the building relay race won a special prize.
