Changes can be positive if given a chance to show potential
Another school year is coming to an end. With this end come many changes in students’ lives. They could be graduating and stepping out into the real world, or just another year of time consuming classes and getting another year closer to graduating.
I am getting ready to be in my fifth year of my college career and throughout this time have been through many changes. I have changed my major once and been taken on a whole new college path. Though this change was a good one, for many it could be bad.
No matter what it is, change can be difficult to adapt to at times and seem overwhelming.
Starting next fall I will be entering into the second part of the teaching program, then on to my student teaching. If you would have asked me last semester if I was ready, I would have said no, but after getting through almost my entire block one course work, I am ready to continue further on this path.
Who knows where this path will actually take me, but I have a plan that should hopefully work out. There are of course many other changes that can happen as I continue.
I always thought it was funny when you go to a job interview and they ask the question “where do you see yourself in five years?” Most of us spout off some answer that we know the employer wants to hear, but do you really know where you will be in five years?
I know five years ago, I thought I wanted to be an accountant. Now, four years later, here I am less than five months away from my last year of college as an elementary education major.
I definitely did not see this in my plan five years ago. This change was not a hard one for me, but it did take a lot of thinking. I did not want to go further into college and decide this is not what I want to do for a second time.
What I am getting at is don’t be afraid of change; it is the unseen things that happen in life. Sure, change is not always a fun time, but it has to happen. Hopefully, for most of you these changes will be beneficial and keep you on your path in one way or another.
So keep on walking down this path to where you are headed, but do not be afraid to take the occasional side path, even if it is leading you down a dark trail and you do not know where it will end up. These side paths you take can lead you to something great, even if you can not see it right in front of your face.
