Famous teens finally reach superstar celebrity status

Is it just my imagination or are teen sensations like Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers taking over the world as we know it? These stars have stepped way over the boundaries of inside the middle school locker and past the realm of the typical Disney Channel star and I don’t understand why. What makes them so special?

Before the phenomena of Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, it seemed like there was an unspoken threshold that separated the pre-teen heartthrobs and trends from the real world. We mature people would look at a preteen crooning over the trend of the day and roll our eyes because we are so much older and better. Our interests lie with the Paris Hiltons and Jude Laws of the world, and they are much more sophisticated.

That threshold has been blasted to pieces. I hear about Cyrus or the Jonas Brothers every day, and I am in college. This is meant to be a place of academia and learning. I see Hannah Montana posters on male dorm room doors and Jonas Brother’s pictures tacked on the ceilings above girls lofts. You can’t go into a store without seeing Cyrus’s face taped to anything related to selling a girly product. You can’t get on Facebook without being sent at least five Jonas Brothers Bumperstickers.

The Hannah Montana concert in Kansas City sold out in approximately seven minutes. Two weeks ago, the Jonas Brothers and Cyrus combined for eight slots on the I-tunes top seller list. Cyrus not only hosted this year’s Teen Choice Awards, she also won entertainer of the year. And the Jonas Brothers won breakout artists of the year. Together Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers combined for eight awards. These people are taking over.

In my preteen days, Boy Meets World was the greatest TV show on earth and Aaron Carter was the cutest thing since Ferbies. Napoleon Dynamite was the only movie ever quoted and Lou Bega’s song, Mambo No. 5, was the coolest song ever rapped. But no one over the age of 13 cared if Corey and Topanga broke up or if Aaron Carter was dancing on tables at his own party. What makes these teenage wonders so much bigger?

I happen to have a theory. It is called the Nick Jonas theory. Nick Jonas is the youngest and cutest lead singer of the Jonas Brothers. My theory includes Nick Jonas sucking in onlookers with his gorgeous complexion and unnaturally pretty hair. That’s the only explanation I can offer as to why they are so popular. And the only reason why Miley Cyrus is popular is because she dated Nick Jonas. It is all starting to make sense now.

All jokes aside, these teens have found away to be successful, and impose their music and their messages on much wider scales than any prior teenage sensation, and for the most part they are good role models for youngsters. So, move over Paris. Nick Jonas is coming at you.
