Profile: Jonathan Krueger
Generally spotted wearing a suit, Jonathan Krueger can be found in a variety of leadership positions across campus. His strong interest in governmental affairs and laundry list of accomplishments throughout his years at Emporia State make Krueger a recognizable student leader.
“Jonathan displays himself as a leader around campus by not only his participation in countless recognized student organizations, but also by the roles that he plays in those groups,” said Eric Swanson, junior secondary math education major. “He holds an officer position in nearly every group he belongs to.”
Krueger is most commonly known for his roles in Associated Student Government and Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity.
“These two organizations have shaped nearly every part of my life at Emporia State,” Krueger said. “[This is] partly due to time commitments, but also due to the passion in which I pursue both.”
Born in Fort Worth, Texas to a family with strong Kansas and political ties, Krueger developed an interest in politics early on. The family moved back to the small Kansas town of Bentley, where Krueger completed most of his schooling. He graduated high school from Halstead in 2006.
After graduation, Krueger decided to pursue his education at ESU for numerous reasons.
“Countless members of my dad’s family have attended ESU throughout many years,” Krueger said. “I have strong family connections with both Emporia and Olpe and really enjoy the small town feel that ESU provided me on my many visits.”
Kruger’s interest in politics grew significantly during his high school years. Upon entering ESU he decided to seek degrees in political science with minors in national security and public affairs. Krueger’s ultimate goal is to attend law school in the fall of 2010. He hopes to attain a career practicing law with the Office of General Counsel of Central Intelligence Agency. Krueger’s political aspirations are high and he wants to be a well known politician some day.
“From the time that my first pastor told me that he would one day be voting for me as president, I have always had high hopes to make a career that could one day place me in a spot for political visibility,” Krueger said.
His strong political drive led Krueger to become involved in ASG. He currently holds the position of Legislative Director. In this position, Krueger is able to work with local, state and national politicians in addressing concerns pertaining to the students of ESU. This legislative position has inspired him to network with many elected officials. He believes that dining with these politicians has allowed him to become a more social person and to create a solid foundation for a future career.
Krueger’s greatest personal accomplishment came late last year when he was able to sign the charter for the AKL fraternity. AKL was a fraternity present on campus from 1949 until 1973. As a senior in high school, Krueger was approached by an alumnus of the fraternity who wanted AKL to be reinstated on the ESU campus. Krueger worked for nearly 20 months to found a new chapter of the fraternity.
“Jonathan has shown us that fraternal organizations are still relevant,” said Jason Bosch, assistant director of student involvement for Greek life. “He has helped build a strong chapter of men of character who not only boast high moral principles and values, but whose actions reflect those values.”
Krueger hopes that his leadership around campus has inspired other students to become more involved at ESU and to prepare for a future career by networking. Krueger firmly believes that by doing the right thing, holding positions of leadership and networking, one can build a career and succeed in the future. This attitude has allowed Krueger to become a respected man on campus.
“It gives me great hope for our future to see young men like Jonathan who are not afraid to stand up and do the right thing, even if no one else is looking,” Bosch said.
