Track picks up one auto, two provisionals

The Emporia State track team traveled to UT-Arlington over the weekend as the outdoor season started to get into full swing. ESU was able to pick up one automatic qualifier and two provisional qualifiers. Senior distance runner Jonel Rossbach earned an automatic qualifier in the 1500m run where she also finished second. Freshman sprinter Kenton Lonberger was able to get two provisional qualifiers. Lonberger got his provisionals in the 100 and 200m dash where he finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Hornets had 10 more top five finishes between the men and women’s team. Junior sprinter Jaclyn Sill finished fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 57.49. Sophomore Brooke Kent finished fifth in long jump with a leap of 5.64m (18-06.00 feet). Sophomore Jennifer Robinson grabbed a fourth place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.62m (5-04.00 feet). Junior Connie Phillips threw 40.15m (131-09 feet) in the javelin which was good enough for a fifth place finish.

On the men’s side Skyler Delmott got second place in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 9:26.27. Sophomore Alex Pyle got first place in the high jump with a height of 2.03m (6-08.00 feet) and sophomore Dustin Andrews grabbed third with a leap of 1.98m (6-06.00 feet). In the shotput Damon Birk got third place with a toss of 15.31m (50-02.75 feet). Birk also picked up a fourth place finish in the discus with a throw of 5.78m (150-02 feet). In the men’s 4x100m relay ESU got a fifth place finish with a time of 42.31.
