Six championships for track

The Emporia State track team picked up six event championships at the State Farm ESU Relays last weekend. Freshman Josh Honeycutt won two championships on the day. Honeycutt finished first in the long jump with a distance of 7.26m (23-10.00 feet) and then won the triple jump with a leap of 14.92m (48-11.50 feet). Freshman Kenton Lonberger also won two championships by finishing first in the 100m dash and the 200m dash. Lonberger clocked a time of 10.56 seconds in the 100m dash and 21.0 seconds in the 200m dash. Distance runner Skyler Delmott got a first place finish in the 5000m run with a time of 15:31.50. Junior Jaclyn Sill picked up the final championship for ESU by winning the 400m dash with a time of 56.40 seconds.

The Hornets were also able to get 16 top five finishes. On the women's side, sophomore Brooke Kent finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 12.13 second. Kent also picked up a second place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.87m (19-03.25 feet). Sophomore Jennifer Robinson finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.60m (5-03.00 feet) and also placed fourth in the long jump 5.56m (18-03.00 feet). In the javelin, junior Connie Philips snagged a third place finish with a toss of 43.52m (142-09 feet). The women were also able to get fifth place in the 4x100m relay with a time of 49.20 seconds.

For the men, freshman Adam McGovern finished fifth in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 10:29.40. In high jump ESU got three top five finishes as sophomore Dustin Andrews picked up second place with a jump of 2.10m (6-10.75 feet). Sophomore Alex Pyle and junior Craig Saalfeld tied for fourth place with a height of 2.05m (6-08.75 feet). Senior Damon Birk was able to pick up a pair of second place finishes and a fourth place finish in three throwing events. Birk got second in the shot put with a throw of 15.94m (52-03.75 feet) and he also got second in the discus with a toss of 48.51m (159-02 feet). Birk picked up fourth place in the hammer throw with a throw of 50.15m (164-06 feet). As a team the men got fourth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.80 seconds and also picked up a fifth place finish in the 4x800m relay with a time of 8:25.40.

The Hornets will have three more home meets this outdoor season including the ESU Open Multis that will start today and go through Friday.
