BILL MOYERS: Do you ever have the sense of… being helped by hidden hands?

JOSEPH CAMPBELL: All the time. It is miraculous. I even have a superstition that has grown on me as a result of invisible hands coming all the time – namely, that if you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in your field of bliss, and they open doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.

Don’t stand still.

Don’t let the world move around you. Don’t remain. Settle. Stagnate.

Instead:

Do something. Do anything. The important part is that you do.

“If there’s one striking difference I’ve noticed about The Norm vs. Outperformers, it’s the willingness to start the journey and to trust that you’ll figure it out as you go.”

I hear a lot of talk about dreams, about what would be awesome, about plans to do something big. It crushes me, really, that those things just stay as…plans.

I see it in your eyes as you talk to me. Your breathing quickens, you hands flutter to your side. You’re dreaming and it’s sublime. This really makes you excited. This makes you feel alive.

But then you go back to financial security. You go back to doing what is safe, deciding to save up now and go later.

And it doesn’t happen.

You don’t go later.

You get stuck in the cycle of security.

There is never a time that is “good enough”. You’re never going to feel truly satisfied financially. The timing is always going to be bad. The weather atrocious.

It doesn’t have to be a huge leap into obscurity. A death-march shuffle gains more ground than nothing.

If you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living.
