The Veterans Day Parade will start at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 10, on Commercial St. from 4th Ave to 12th Ave. This year is the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI.
“The marching of the parade will take about 45 min,” said John Hoy, American Legion member. “We have 55 veterans and (a) couple floats. Roughly 150 to 200 people will participate the parade.”
About 50 floats from different community will be in the parade, including a float from Lyon County GOP.
“We will have people from (ESU) Republicans on the trailer,” said Brandon Rains, treasurer of the Lyon County GOP. “We will flag different branches of different military, (and) in the back of the pickup truck someone (will be) holding (an) American flag. We stored the flag and keep (it in) good condition year to year. It doesn’t cost much to decorate.”
The ESU Collegiate Republicans will be in the parade with the Lyon County Republican GOP, according to Grace McAllister, president of ESU Collegiate Republicans and senior business administration major.
“I think the Lyon County Republicans and ESU Republicans are very excited for the Veterans Day,” McAllister said. “We are excited to show our support to veterans and thanks for what they have done.”
The Student Veterans Association will also be in the parade.
“It’s always great to be part of the Veterans Day Parade,” said Houston Clearwater, vice president of SVA and sophomore student of computer science. “It’s a big deal for us. It’s a way for us to get our name out there.”
