Firefighters return to rekindled fire by ESU campus

Firefighters respond to a rekindled fire Sunday evening at Hornets Pointe Apartments at 1325 Merchant St. across from the Emporia State campus. Firefighters had battled an earlier fire in the same unoccupied building for almost ten hours and returned to the scene around 5:30 p.m. and left around 6:30 p.m. The initial fire began around 4:20 a.m. and lasted until around 2 p.m. Two firefighters were injured and taken to Newman Regional Health during the initial blaze.
