Over the next year, Emporia State will be working on adding a full Starbucks in the Memorial Union. It is expected to be opened by the end of 2019.
“There is not a fixed timeline,” said Carmen Leeds, Memorial Union director. “It is hard to say right now, but Starbucks has told us it takes forty-six weeks for a Starbucks of our size to be built.”
According to the ESU website, Sodexo will begin construction on a new, fully licensed Starbucks store in the union this spring with plans for a grand opening by the end of 2019.
“It’ll probably look similar of what most Starbucks look like, but match our union as well,” Leeds said. “Hopefully, we’ll start seeing something happen soon. We’ve already moved our officers out. So, everyone that was over there is now over here on the southern union services.”
The new Starbucks is expected to offer the full Starbucks-branded menu, sell branded merchandise, honor gift cards and earn Starbucks rewards on purchases.
“I am really excited about (the) new Starbucks opening, and I am really curious about knowing what new drinks and coffees they will serve,” said Khushi Ghanchi, freshman pre-med and biology major.
This project expands the hours and current offerings of Sodexo’s Buzzcotti outlet, which sells Starbucks brand coffee and is licensed to make some official Starbucks drinks.
“We appreciate our partnership and are pleased with Sodexo’s investment in our students and campus community by building and operating this fully licensed Starbucks outlet,” Leeds said.
