The Kansas Board of Regents will have their next meeting at Emporia State Nov. 7. KBOR will spend Wednesday holding meetings, with the main one starting at 1:30 p.m., and on Thursday they will tour the campus.
“I was here when they were last meeting at ESU,” said David Cordle, provost and vice president of academic affairs. “I thought it went very well. The basic format for their monthly meetings is mostly the same regardless of where they meet.”
The last KBOR meeting held at ESU was Nov. 15, 2016, according to the KBOR website. This is the third visit to the ESU campus for their monthly meeting in the last eight years, according to Gwen Larson, assistant director of marketing and media relations.
“They routinely have some of their monthly meetings on the individual campus’, but I don’t know how they determine where they go what year,” Larson said.
While the agenda for the meeting hasn’t been released yet, it will be available in the next couple weeks on the KBOR website. Having KBOR here is good for both the college and the regents, according to Cordle.
“I always think it’s a very good opportunity to have the regents here and see for themselves what we do at ESU,” Cordle said. “It’s a good thing for them too. The meetings, when they’re in Topeka, they’re not really that close to the actual work of faculty, staff and students. It’s a good thing for them to get out a couple times a year and meet on one of the campuses.”
Larson said that her hope with the KBOR visit is to show them the different opportunities on campus.
“For Emporia State...by hosting the Board of Regents monthly meeting, is it does give us the opportunity to showcase campus, showcase programs, showcase students…(and) put our best foot forward,” Larson said.
The KBOR meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. next Wednesday, Nov. 7 in Webb Hall of the Memorial Union. It is an open meeting and anyone can attend.
