Jariah Higgins, soulful singer songwriter, will perform at Emporia State at 7 p.m. Feb. 13 at Center for Student Involvement.

The event is open to all hornets and refreshments will be provided.

Kay MacGregor, president of the Union Activities Council and senior communications major, said Higgins was a good option related to Valentine’s Day.

“He is a soothing artist, like a coffee house singer to make his audiences relaxed,” said Helen Bolling, vice president of UAC and junior elementary education major.

Higgins was found at the National Association for Campus Activities regional conference last fall.

“He was one of performers and our students liked his music,” said Blythe Eddy, director of Student Activities and community service said. “We decided to bring him to ESU based on his performance.”

The program is cosponsored by Starbucks and Sedexo food services.

“Students attending will be provided up to five-dollar coupon for Starbucks drinks on the night of Jariah,” Eddy said. “People can also come and decorate their own cookies.”

UAC will hold various events in the following semester in an effort to serve students.

“I am looking forward our events are successful and students are enjoying them,” MacGregor said. “We serve the students on campus. It gives students an opportunity to connect outside the class.”
