Who doesn’t love a good superhero movie? From the hard-hitting action, to the larger than life drama, suspense and the use of cool superpowers, superhero films are all the rage now.
In these past few years Marvel Studios has been filling our hearts with all of our beloved Marvel characters, from Spiderman to Black Widow to Thor and Captain America, just to name a few.
And although each superhero film is unique in its own way, in my strong opinion, none could be as unique and original as Black Panther.
The film incorporates action, adventure, science fiction, drama and fantasy. Therefore, it has a bit of everything for movie lovers of all genres.
The film revolves around the character T’Challa/Black Panther who is the king of Wakanda, a secretly advanced and wealthy African nation. He returns home to replace his father on the throne. Upon his return, T’Challa is threatened with an evil that forces him to team up with allies and use all of his strength as The Black Panther to protect his nation and the world.
Black Panther hit the cinemas this week and is already raking up a ton of positive reviews from critics and non-critics alike. I am most excited by the fact that it is a blockbuster film made of an all-star and predominantly black cast, consisting of Michael B. Jordan, Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and more.
This movie has been long deserved since most blockbuster films don’t show much cultural or even racial diversity.
Although the film follows the typical story arc of hero against a bad guy, the way in which the film showcased such action is to be commended because everything from its costume designs, scenery and action sequences gives tribute to and references African culture.
If you are a movie lover like myself, and want to see a superhero movie with a different take on what a superhero can be; see to it that you get a ticket to watch this film in cinemas. It’s a must watch.
