Danielle Sprinkle, senior first base, catches the ball to get out a Jennies player during a game against Central Missouri on Friday at Trusler Sports Center. Sprinkle hit a homerun during the Friday game, which assisted in a Hornet win, 4-2.

ESU softball took on University of Central Missouri in a double header, winning one game and losing the other, last Friday at  the Trusler Sports Complex.

The first game was low scoring for both teams. In the first inning, both the Hornets and the Jennies went scoreless. The second inning proved more promising for the Hornets, when they scored two runs in the bottom of the inning and grabbed the lead.

Central Missouri retaliated with a run of their own in the third inning, but this proved to be the final score put on the board. The game was called after four scoreless innings, with the Hornets taking the win 2-1.

During the second game, ESU had a rough start and did not score in the first two innings. The Jennies took advantage of the Hornets’ standstill and scored two runs  by the second inning, putting them up 2-0.

ESU connected for one run in the third inning, two in the fourth and one in the fifth, allowing them to pull ahead of the Jennies. The Hornets emerged victorious, winning 4-2.

Emporia State will be back in action today against Northwest Missouri State at the Trusler Sports Complex.
