The Hornets brought home two gold medals from the KT Woodman meet in Wichita, Kansas last Friday. 

ESU came away with two silver medals on the women’s side. Leah Nelson, junior middle distance runner, placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.25. Lati Yeargin, senior sprinter, was the other member of the women’s team who ended the competition with hardware. Yeargin placed second in the long jump. 

The men combined for a total of seven top five finishes at the meet, including two medals. 

Alec Garcia, senior thrower, took first in both the men’s shot put and the discus, giving him the only two Hornet championships for the day. Braiden Allen, freshman thrower, also placed in discus, taking fourth. 

Cole Bosley, junior distance runner, placed fifth in the men’s 1500-meter run. Thomas LaRoche, senior middle distance runner, and Murad Baheyadeen, sophomore middle distance runner, rounded out the finishes in the distance races, with a fourth and fifth respectively in the 800-meter run. 

Peter Mascal, sophomore long jumper, finished fourth in the long jump to conclude the Hornet medal count. 

The Hornets will be back on the track for the KU Relays, which runs today through Saturday in Lawrence, Kansas.
